A Magoffin County woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly taking medications from patients while working at a nursing home in Lexington.
According to the arrest warrant, S. R. Bailey, 42, of Royalton, is accused of taking medications from Northpoint Lexington Healthcare Center while she was an employee.
The medications, described in the arrest warrant as narcotics, that were stolen from the facility were located in a secured area of the building only accessible to employees.
The administrator reportedly was put in contact with the Magoffin County Sheriff Department, which had discovered through the course of an unrelated investigation that Bailey, who was a former employee of Northpoint, was in possession of the following missing medications at a private residence: one IV dose of Cefriaxone with a value of $43.94, a 30-day supply of Banophen with a value of $6.08, a 30-day supply of Trazadone with a value of $7.48, and a one-day supply of Valacyclovir with a value of $20.17. A total value of the stolen items was estimated at $77.67.
Some of the medications had been removed from their original packaging or had been crushed, but the packaging could be linked to a Northpoint patient.
According to the warrant, some of the packaging had signs that Bailey had attempted to remove identifying information as to obscure the point of origin for the medications.
Bailey was arrested at her residence in Royalton on Friday, August 25, and charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking under $500. She was housed and released from the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, pending future court dates.
Also important to note, it has been brought to the Independent’s attention that the medications may or may not be actual narcotics. The drugs that were allegedly stolen were referred to as narcotics numerous times in the arrest warrant. With the information we were given, we cannot determine whether narcotics were actually involved in the case, only report what was stated in official documents for the court. We have edited the story to reflect the possible discrepancy.
