Kaitlyn S. Petrick, 29, of DuBois, a pharmacy technician at Penn Highlands DuBois, who was accused of stealing pain medication from the hospital pharmacy, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the state Intermediate Punishment Program in SCI Muncy by Judge Paul Cherry last week at sentencing court.
Petrick pleaded guilty to acquire or obtain controlled substances by misrepresentation, an ungraded felony and was fined $1 plus costs, and was placed in the state IPP program for 24 months.
The state IPP program is for low level drug offenders and those who qualify undergo a 24-month drug treatment program.
Petrick was evaluated by the state Department of Corrections and was recommended for inclusion into the program, according to her attorney Christopher Mohney of DuBois.
She was also ordered to pay restitution of $1,518 to Penn Highlands Healthcare. She was also ordered to have no contact with Penn Highland DuBois or enter onto its property except in the case of an emergency.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, in April 2017, employees of the pharmacy at Penn Highlands DuBois discovered numerous instances where someone used Whiteout to change the narcotic count on the pharmacy’s inventory.
An audit was conducted and on multiple occasions someone entered incorrect counts of Oxycodone into the inventory and computer system when compared to what had been ordered from the drug distributor.
The corresponding invoices of what had been ordered were also missing.
It was discovered that Petrick had placed the order and recorded that the pharmacy had received less Oxycodone pills than what had actually been received.
A total of 2,100 Oxycodone pills were found to be missing.
Petrick was drug tested and terminated from employment on April 5.
Petrick tested positive for amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana and methadone.
On May 2, state police interviewed Petrick and she said she sold stolen Oxycodone for $10 a pill to someone in Reynoldsville.
