ILLINOIS – Illinois State Police say two nurses were arrested and pled guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance following separate drug diversion investigations.
Officials say the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation send a complaint to the ISP’s Medicaid Fraud Control Bureau on February 2, 2016 about an alleged drug diversion at a hospital in Pekin. An investigation by the MFCB resulted in Jessica Marberry, 37, being arrested for allegedly unlawfully obtaining hydromorphone, a pain reliever, while working as an emergency room nurse. Marberry pled guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance on October 6, 2016.
ISP officials also say the MFCB received a complaint from a Belleville nursing home regarding the alleged diversion of hydrocodone, an opioid. As a result of an investigation, Trisha Cleveland, 38, was arrested. MFCB officials say Cleveland allegedly falsely reported resident requests for prescribed hydrocodone, and that the residents never received the requested medication. Cleveland pled guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance on October 6, 2016.
Authorities say Marberry and Cleveland were sentenced to two years of felony probation and 30 hours of community service.
