A Tallahassee pharmacy technician is behind bars after police say he admitted to stealing a large amount of Xanax from his job to “self-medicate” his stress.
According to court documents, Tallahassee police responded to the CVS on Apalachee regarding a theft on Oct. 25.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were told that an employee, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Hall, had been stealing Xanax.
Documents say officers began speaking with Hall, who told them he had been working at CVS for five years as a pharmacy technician.
Hall is also a student at Tallahassee Community College and told police school was so stressful that he decided to “self-medicate” by taking Xanax.
Police say Hall confessed to stealing the pills from the same store he worked at and ingesting the pills while on the clock. Hall said he stole approximately 160 one and two milligram doses of Xanax during the last year and a half.
Officers also spoke to a witness who said she saw Hall grab a bottle of the pills and turn away from her. The witness told police that when she went to recount the pills afterward, there were nine missing.
After weeks of investigating, Hall was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility on Wednesday. He is being charged with grand theft of a controlled substance.
