North Haverhill — A former registered nurse at Cottage Hospital pleaded guilty this week to a charge that stems from her taking morphine from the Woodsville-based facility for her own use.
Jennifer Oakley, of East Corinth, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possessing a controlled drug and was sentenced to one year in the Grafton County House of Corrections, with all but four days of her sentence suspended on the condition that she remains of good behavior for five years, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.
The 43-year-old Oakley also was placed on probation for one year and must perform 50 hours of community service. Her license has been suspended for five years.
Court documents from the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office — she was licensed in the Green Mountain State — indicate Oakley was working in the hospital’s emergency department on Jan. 17 when she made “false and deceptive chart entries in a patient’s medical record.”
According to the documents, Oakley concealed the medication that she claimed she was giving to the patient.
Her co-workers said they saw syringes in her coat pocket, and a subsequent urine sample came back positive for morphine, the documents said.
