Salina pharmacist, husband charged with prescription drug crimes

A Salina pharmacist and her husband face federal drug and conspiracy charges.

Kirsty and Dalton Hartley, both 28 years old, are charged with one count of conspiring to distribute and dispense controlled substances and one count of obtaining controlled substances by fraud.

Kirsty Hartley is also charged with one count of unlawfully distributing and dispensing controlled substances

An indictment alleges the crimes happened while Kirsty Hartley was a pharmacist in charge at a CVS pharmacy in Salina.

That indictment states that Kirsty Hartley diverted controlled prescription drugs by creating false prescriptions for herself and her husband and filling them.

The indictment alleges they fraudulently obtained 21,289 tablets of hydrocodone with acetaminophen and 360 tablets of alprazolam.

The investigation began when a loss prevention manager for CVS reported the issue to the Salina Police Department.

Hartley’s pharmacist license was suspended on September 23rd of 2017.

If convicted, the crimes carry the following penalties:

Conspiracy to distribute controlled substances (count one) and unlawfully distributing controlled substances (count two): Up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $1 million.

Obtaining controlled substances by fraud: Up to four years and a fine up to $250,000.

The Salina Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Furst is prosecuting.
