LEOMINSTER — A Fitchburg woman was arrested Thursday on charges she stole medicine from HealthAlliance Hospital and assaulted a police officer after being arrested, police said.
Makayla Sheran, 27, of 26 Lawrence St. was arrested on charges of larceny from a building, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Sheran left the hospital on Thursday with an undisclosed amount of medicine that HealthAlliance nursing staff described as potentially lethal, Fitchburg police Sgt. Mark Jackson said Friday.
Jackson said that Sheran, who had been seeking treatment at the hospital Thursday for an unknown ailment, had taken the medication off a supply cart.
Soon after she left the hospital, police were able to track Sheran to her apartment in Fitchburg, Jackson said, where they were able to recover everything she had taken around 3:30 p.m.
Jackson said that Sheran was “extremely resistant” during the arrest, fighting the officers as they tried to restrain her.
During the her booking at the police station, Jackson said Sheran was “extremely uncooperative, violent and belligerent,” kicking one police officer in the shin.
