Kochi: The central police on Friday arrested two youths on charges of stealing prescription letterheads of a city hospital to forge doctor’s note and buy narcotic drugs from medical stores.The crime came to light when one of the accused was arrested in connection with an assault and robbery case happened on November 13.

The arrested are Ajith Lalan (29) and Shyam Shaji (20).

The accused had assaulted Antony, an Alappuzha native, and robbed his purse and mobile phone. The accomplices of Ajith, Rangeela Aji and two minors, were earlier arrested in the case. Ajith had gone into hiding after his aides were arrested.

Ajith had returned to Ernakulam recently. He was arrested based on a tip-off. Letterheads of the hospital were found while frisking the accused.

On further interrogation, the accused divulged information regarding the accomplice involved in robbing the prescription letterpads, said the police.

Shyam is a resident of Ernakulam south. The duo had stolen the letterheads when they visited the hospital casualty to see a friend.

Police said that the accused used to buy various drugs which can be categorized as narcotic drugs by using the forged letterheads.

Both the accused are history-sheeters. Police said Ajith has been involved in various robbery, theft and attempted murder cases. Shyam had also been booked in robbery, theft and narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances cases.

The accused were nabbed by a police team including Ernakulam ACP K Lalji, central circle inspector A Ananthalal and sub-inspector S Vijayasankar.
