SYRAC– USE, N.Y. — A Manlius nurse who stole pain medication from an assisted living facility for the elderly has been fined $500 and put on probation for two years.

The state Education Department took the disciplinary action against licensed practical nurse Jennifer L. Hay.

While working at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown in 2013, Hay created false entries in the facility’s records to conceal her theft of Dilaudid, a narcotic painkiller, according to the state.

As a result, she was convicted in 2014 in Watertown Town Court of falsifying business records in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and one count of Prohibited Acts, a misdemeanor violation of a section of state public health law. She was sentenced to three years probation.

The state Education Department automatically charges nurses and other licensed health professionals with professional misconduct if they are convicted of crimes.

In a signed consent order, Hay did not contest the misconduct charge.
