REEDSBURG, Wis. (WMTV) — Reedsburg police were alerted by one of the local pharmacists that she had received a suspicious call. So, when 32-year-old Xavier Coleman showed up to get his prescription, so did the police.
When police showed up at the pharmacy, Coleman fled from police.
Coleman is being held in Sauk County Jail on charges of obtaining prescription by false means as well as resisting arrest.
This recent case of prescription fraud highlights the growing opioid epidemic, and it’s the pharmacists who are fighting on the front lines.
“As more things happen these things come to light, we share with each other what we’re seeing and just become more vigilant,” said Constance Austin, Pharmacy Manager of Reedsburg Family Prescription Center.
While Austin was not involved in this latest case of prescription fraud, she is well aware of certain tricks. However, Reedsburg Police Chief says these tricks will just lead you to getting caught.
“You’re risking a felony conviction and prion term,” said Reedsburg Police Chief, Tim Becker.
Chief Becker says people at home also need to stay vigilant.
“This is the time of the year that we have a cause for concern when you have extended family visiting any type of stock pile get rid of,” said Chief Becker.
