An Oak Grove nurse faces charges in connection with stealing prescription narcotics prescribed to his patients.

The following information comes from the request for warrant for his arrested filed by the Louisiana State Police.

M. B. Boals, 43, was arrested Monday and charged with 10 counts of possession of a controlled substance, 10 counts of theft, 10 counts of cruelty to the infirm and 10 counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud.

On Monday, Feb. 8, the Oak Grove Police Department received information from the chief operating officer of West Carroll Memorial Hospital, who informed the police department that one of her supervisors discovered evidence of controlled substances being tampered with and removed from the secure narcotics room at the hospital.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, the Monroe Field Office of the Louisiana State Police traveled to Oak Grove and met with the COO at the hospital.

The COO provided Louisiana State Police with the details from an internal investigation completed by the hospital. Louisiana State Police obtained a list and interviewed those who were granted access to the controlled medications at the hospital.

Louisiana State Police interviewed Boals at the West Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Department. During a post-Miranda interview, Boals told state police that prior to working at West Carroll Hospital, he worked at Amedisys in Metairie.

State police discovered, after an administrative subpoena return from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, Boals was employed at CIMA Hospice in Monroe and was currently under investigation stemming from diversion of controlled substances from July 2019 to August 2019.

According to the warrant, investigators confirmed that while working at CIMA Hospice, Boals picked up medication with no intention to deliver the medication to the patients who were in his care. Boals neglected to provide the patients with their medication, according to the warrant.

Boals was terminated from CIMA Hospice on Sept. 5, 2019 after he was unable to verify a medication delivery confirmation sheet for a patient’s prescription.

On April 23, a warrant was placed for Boals’ arrest.

Boals was arrested Monday morning. Bond has been set for $775,000.
