Three people are facing fraud charges after a local pharmacist alerted St. Clair County law enforcement of two suspicious prescriptions.
According to the county sheriff department, a pharmacist from the Fort Gratiot Walmart requested deputies come to the store shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday.
The pharmacist told deputies a prescription was filled Saturday night from a doctor out of Saginaw for 800 milligrams of Ibuprofen and a cough syrup containing codeine, and that the same prescription from the same physician came in Sunday. Then, the pharmacist said he contacted the doctor, who said the prescriptions were fraudulent.
A 23-year-old Lexington, Kentucky man was apprehended at the pharmacy counter before two other suspects, a 23-year-old Muskegon woman and 36-year-old Oak Park man, were found in the Walmart parking lot.
Deputies searched the suspect’s vehicle, where they seized Ibuprofen, promethazine with codeine syrup, alprazolam and Percocet pills, marijuana, a laptop, printer, faked prescriptions and cash, according to the sheriff’s department.
Detectives also believe the suspects may have conducted the same type of fraud around the state.
The suspects are lodged in the St. Clair County jail and are expected to be arraigned Tuesday in 72nd District Court on charges involving prescription fraud.
