Suspect stole prescription scripts from Wayne doctor, said police
Wayne police arrested and charged a Paterson woman with obtaining prescription drugs by fraud after stealing prescription slips from a Hamburg Turnpike doctor’s office, according to police records.
Lejia Murtis, 31, was arrested with prescription drug fraud last week following an investigation, according to police records.
The doctor, who was not identified, filed a report in early November 2016 regarding the theft of prescription forms from his office, according to police reports. The doctor told police he was informed a woman was attempting to use the stolen prescriptions to obtain drugs from several area pharmacies, police records show.
During an investigation, police discovered Murdis successfully obtained Alprazolam and Tramadol using the stolen prescription slips. Several other attempts were thwarted by pharmacy personnel, according to police records. After interviewing the unidentified doctor and pharmacy employees, officers were able to identify and arrest Murtis on Feb. 2, police reports show.
She was released on a summons complaint with a pending court date, police records show.
