A Jeffersontown woman was arrested on drug possession charges Saturday after she told police she had stolen anesthetics from the animal hospital where she worked, according to an arrest citation.
Jeffersontown police responded shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday to a report of a woman sleeping in her car at the Five Star Food Mart, 10314 Watterson Trail, according to an arrest citation. Rachel Smith, 26, was slumped over in the driver’s seat. Two bottles of 5-milligram diazepam tablets (commonly associated with brands like Valium) and three 10-milliliter vials of ketamine were in plain view on the passenger seat, the citation said.
Police said they also found a small baggie of meth in the car’s ashtray and a bag of heroin inside a cigarette carton on the floor. Smith told police she had stolen the diazepam and ketamine from Sims Animal Hospital, where she worked.
Smith was charged with two counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance for heroin and methamphetamine. She also faces two counts of second-degree possession of a controlled substance for barbiturate (sedatives) and an unspecified drug.
She remains in custody in the Louisville jail on a $2,500 cash bond.
