CARROLLTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say the Carroll County sheriff has been arrested on charges stemming from the theft of prescription painkillers.
State police said Wednesday that Sheriff Jamie Kinman was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft of a controlled substance.
Lt. Michael Webb, a state police spokesman, says Kinman turned himself in to authorities in Grant County. Webb says the sheriff allegedly entered a residence and took prescription pain medication.
Kinman was admitted to a rehab facility in February, WDRB reported. He has also faced past accusations of official misconduct and tampering with evidence, but was found not guilty.
State police offered few details, saying the investigation is continuing.
Kinman’s chief deputy, Rodney Hawkins, says the sheriff’s arrest came as a shock to the department but says the office remains focused on its job.
