A Galliano home-health nurse facing theft charges after being accused of stealing medication from an elderly patient last month is set to make a court appearance next week.
Shana Verdin, 51, of 134 E. 135th St., stole 25 Hydrocodone pills from a medicine cabinet in the home of her 81-year-old client at the 600 block of Bayou Blue Road on Feb. 3, according to the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told investigators the prescription for the pills had been filled a few days before their disappearance, authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Office said Verdin had asked about the medication prior to it being stolen.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested Verdin on Feb. 15 and charged her with theft of assets of an aged person and possession of schedule III narcotics, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Verdin was released from the Terrebonne Parish jail Feb. 16 after posting a $10,000 bond, records show.
Verdin declined to comment today on the charges against her. Her next court appearance is set for April 3.
