A former nurse has been struck off after failing to administer medicine correctly to patients.
Sheelakutty Jacob has been removed from the nursing register by a watchdog following a review.
She had been working at Hamewith Lodge Nursing Home in Aberdeen at the time of the incidents and had been suspended since July 2014 while further investigation was carried out.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council took the steps last week.
In its decision, the watchdog said: “The panel is mindful of the serious nature of Miss Jacob’s failings which were numerous and involved a significant number of patients who were placed a risk of harm.
“Given her lack of meaningful and appropriate engagement and the absence of any evidence to suggest that she has taken any steps to remediate her failings, the panel is of the view that Miss Jacob’s nursing skills and knowledge will have further diminished with the passage of time since the original order was imposed in July 2014.”
One incident involved Jacob writing down she had given a patient their sleeping tablet even though she had not. Another involved her not giving medicine to a patient.
There are 13 instances of her not recording she had administered medicine.
It was also found she had potted medication for four patients while knowing it was not proper procedure.
All of the incidents took place in June or July 2013.
The panel heard Jacob had been told about a serious family illness on her way to work.
On July 24, 2014, the nurse resigned from her post at the home.
In September that year she was suspended for 18 months for the “protection of the public” while an investigation was carried this.
This was then extended by another nine months.
The latest review of the decision resulted in her being struck off the register because of the “serious” failings which created a “real risk of harm”.
