A 40-year-old Greenacres pharmacy employee is facing drug trafficking charges after police found more than 100 hydrocodone tablets in her possession.
Kathirene Horoff, of Boynton Beach, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $65,000 bond. She is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and one count each of dispensing prescriptions without a license, practicing without a license, possession of a new legend drug and trafficking hydrocodone over 38 grams.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, employees of the Express Rx Pharmacy in Greenacres reported multiple times to police that Horoff was employed there as a pharmacy technician, despite being unregistered.
The employees also said they suspected Horoff of stealing pills from the pharmacy, the report stated. Horoff would walk out of the pharmacy several times a day to speak with people in the parking lot, they told police.
On Thursday, Greenacres Public Safety officers pulled Horoff over after she ran a stop sign. She explained that she had left the pharmacy to make a bank deposit.
Horoff agreed to a search of her car that yielded multiple narcotics in her purse, a cosmetic case and a KFC bag, the report says. Inside the KFC bag was an additional prescription bag, which had 120 hydrocodone tablets prescribed to an Anthony Lazarra.
When the officers spoke with the pharmacist on duty, she said that the prescription for Lazarra was not valid because the label had been reprinted with a May 14 date, instead of Thursday’s date.
In all, officers seized 235 pills.
According to the report, Horoff confessed to working part-time as a pharmacy technician, even though she was not registered with the state. She also confessed to stealing ibuprofen, hydrocodone, Xanax, Soma, and Oxycontin from the pharmacy’s stock.
