A former United Regional nurse is charged with taking numerous controlled substances including morphine and codeine from the hospital for her personal use in 2014.
The arrest of Joni Nichole Pruitt came after a more recent investigation into missing drugs at Hardeman County Hospital in Quanah. Pruitt, also known as Joni Love, is charged with diversion of controlled substances by a dispenser.
According to the affidavit for her arrest, in may a DPS CID Special Agent began investigating tampering of numerous vials of drugs at Hardeman County Hospital, and at least 86 vials were found to have needle punctures in the top.
The investigation led to Pruitt who had access to the medication room. During the investigation, the agent learned Pruitt had been fired from United Regional in July of 2014. He found out Pruitt had been investigated by the hospital after showing unusual behavior and after numerous doses of morphine went missing.
According to the affidavit, Pruitt admitted to United Regional officials she had been taking morphine and other medications for personal use.
She was fired two days later and no criminal charges were filed at the time.
