Ector County Hospital District Police arrested a Medical Center Hospital pharmacy tech with some help from Odessa Police Department and the suspect’s ex-boyfriend, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Brandon Scott King, 30, and his boyfriend were in the process of breaking up on Sept. 10. When King’s boyfriend was packing up his things and moving out, he told Odessa police he found medication from Medical Center Hospital, where King was working, inside of an H-E-B grocery bag, according to the affidavit.

OPD Cpl. Rusty Martin then called Ector County Hospital District Police, telling them he had found some medications that belonged to MCH and that they had been in King’s residence, according to the affidavit.

It was soon verified by a pharmacist at the hospital that the drugs found did belong to MCH. The pharmacist at MCH told police the drugs inside of the bag included one syringe labeled Fentanyl, two syringes labeled Versed, two vials labeled Ketamine and various other pharmaceuticals, syringes and a refractometer, according to the affidavit.

ECHD police made contact with King on the afternoon of Sept. 13. King willingly filled out a statement, admitting to taking the items from MCH, the affidavit shows.

Based on the evidence obtained, the statements given, and the belief that King had access to the medication due to his position as a pharmacy tech, King was arrested on Sept. 15 and charged with fraud possession of a controlled substance, the document said.

King is currently still in the Ector County Detention Center, with a bond set at $50,000, according to jail records.
