MANISTIQUE — A child custody call to police turned into something much bigger for the Manistique Department of Public Safety.
On June 11th, 2017, officers with the department began a child custody investigation which turned into the arrest of Joel Michalik of Manistique. Using a search warrant, officers found a substantial amount of prescription drugs, including Hydrocodone and Oxycodone.
Police say the narcotics were taken from Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital where Michalik was employed as a pharmacist. He was arraigned last week on two drug charges, one felony and one misdemeanor.
His next court date will be October 5th, 2017 in Schoolcraft County Circuit Court. Michalik has a $25,000 personal recognizance bond.
The Michigan State Police and Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
