A registered nurse at Heritage Hall remained behind bars Monday for allegedly stealing pain medication and medical records from patients at the nursing home.

Polly A. Campbell, 39, of 606 Hoge Ave., Frankfort was confronted by police Nov. 22 after staff at the nursing home conducted a medication count and found some missing.

“Heritage Hall called us,” said Sgt. Chris Beach of the Lawrenceburg Police Department. “At shift change, some of the medications ended up not counting right and some medication count sheets that are part of patient records were missing,” he said. “They confronted her and then called us.”

The medications were from four different patients, Beach said, and were allegedly found in Campbell’s purse and other belongings. Among the medications found were Tramadol and Hydrocodone 10, according to an arrest report filed by Beach.

Also found in her belongings were medical records from six patients, Beach said.

The incident has triggered a state investigation, Beach said.

“The state is now involved in it and doing an adult case investigation for endangering patients by taking their medications,” Beach said.

It has also triggered an internal audit by Heritage Hall.

“They’ll conduct a complete audit because they believe this has been going on,” Beach said, noting that Campbell had worked for Heritage Hall for about six months.

Beach said Campbell offered no explanation for allegedly stealing the medications.

“She didn’t want to cooperate,” he said, noting in his arrest report that Campbell gave officers permission to search her belongings.

“I think she knew she was caught when we started investigating.”

Campbell is charged with theft by unlawful taking of a controlled substance, theft of medical records and prescription not in proper container, according to her arrest report.

Campbell’s name is noted in a Kentucky Board of Nursing newsletter found at the agency’s website as having her license cleared of disciplinary action last May. It did not include information about what that action was about.
