A 50-year-old Wall Lake woman stole hundreds of pain pills from residents of a nursing home over the course of about four months this year.

Michelle Denise Green faces seven criminal charges for fraud, tampering with records, dependent adult abuse and drug offenses, court records show. The most serious charges are felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Green was a nurse for Twilight Acres who allegedly reported that she administered the painkillers to residents but kept them for herself from Jan. 1 to May 2. She is also accused of stealing narcotics logs to conceal the thefts.

A Medicaid fraud investigator discovered the thefts. The medications were paid for by Medicaid and Medicare.

All told, Green is accused of stealing 329 oxycodone pills, 122 hydrocodone pills and 48 tramadol pills.

A judge ordered Green to undergo a substance-abuse evaluation before her next court hearing.

A nurse anesthetist from Boone who stole more powerful painkillers from Manning Regional Healthcare Center this year did not go to prison when he was sentenced for the crimes last month. A judge put him on probation for five years.
