SALINE COUNTY, Ark — A Saline County nurse is accused of putting her patients’ lives in danger by mishandling their medicine.

Hot Springs Village police arrested Melanie Burns, 45, last Friday, following a two month investigation at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Investigators said the facility contacted them in December after Burns allegedly failed to give 15 patients their medication.

Medication, authorities said, was vital and “could have resulted in catastrophic failure for the patients” if not administered.

Investigators also found that Burns gave other patients their medicine four hours late, the same month.

Administrators told police Burns gave an explanation for giving patients medication late one day, but could not explain why she failed to hand medicine out another day.

Burns faces 14 counts of abuse and neglect. She’s due back in court on March 27 at 1 p.m.
