A pharmacist filmed without his knowledge by surveillance cameras, pleaded guilty to stealing approximately 180 tablets of potent drugs to her employer two months in 2016.

Paul Sioufi pleaded guilty yesterday to five counts of offences before the disciplinary Council of the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec (OPQ).

“I acknowledge that what I have done is very serious. I was not good in my head, ” said Sioufi. I very much regret. “

In total, he stole about 180 tablets of various narcotics (oxycodone and Supeudol), according to what has been calculated during the syndic’s inquiry, October and November 2016.

Mr. Sioufi worked in three pharmacies in Brossard and Montreal, which belong to the same owner. This is the one that alerted the OPQ in October 2016, because he had noted discrepancies in the inventory and had suspicions against this employee.

To verify the doubts, surveillance cameras have been installed at the Brossard location, from 24 October to 7 November 2016. The trustee has explained yesterday that the footage showed Mr. Sioufi taking the tablets and inserting them in his left pocket. Once in office, he consumed.

Impressed by the company’s investigation of the 8 November last, Mr. Sioufi was at this time 68 tablets in his pockets.

“It took three times before Mr. Sioufi empty the total contents of his pocket,” stressed Josée Morin, the trustee of the OPQ, adding that, contrary to what he advanced, the man did not have prescription up to date for these drugs.

Yesterday, Mr. Sioufi has pleaded guilty to obstructing the investigation of the OPQ and of having lied. According to the trustee, he has denied the facts, on several occasions, and has even blamed the lack of inventory issues to other employees.

When viewing videos, it would have answered the syndic’s work : “It’s a joke

[that’s a joke], you can’t even see my face. “

“He sings during the viewing,” added Morin.

Mr. Sioufi has said that he is intimidated by the employees of the company investigation.

“I felt absolutely threatened, they said they could call the police. “

The 15 November last, Mr. Sioufi has resigned voluntarily, without which the trustee would have required a radiation emergency. It no longer works since that time.

Furthermore, the problems of consumption of M Sioufi dating back several years. In January 2016, it has followed a detox for four days, but has started to consume in July 2016, due to family problems.

“The stress was unbearable,” said Mr. Sioufi, adding that he has now overcome his addiction.

The two parties have recommended a write-off of four months.

Pharmacist since 1993, Paul Sioufi had no disciplinary record. The Board of discipline took everything under advisement.
