A nurse practitioner in Washington County, Virginia has been arrested on a federal charge of distributing a narcotic, according to court documents.
Matthew Sykes is charged with one count of distribution of a schedule II controlled substance, according to information received from U.S. District Court in Abingdon following his arrest on Wednesday.
The criminal complaint says that Sykes had been under investigation over an eight month period while working at Watauga Recovery in Abingdon. The report said that Sykes agreed to write a prescription to a patient for Roxicodone and would receive some of the pills in an exchange.
The complaint says Sykes was terminated from Watauga Recovery on May 1 and is still employed by E&C Counseling as a nurse practitioner.
