A woman’s attempt to use a fraudulent prescription ended with her in the county jail on a variety of charges, police said.

At 1:03 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Matthew Carlson responded to the CVS on Route 46 in the Budd Lake section of the township after police got a report that there was a woman at the pharmacy counter attempting to pass a fraudulent prescription.

Carlson located the woman, who identified herself as Trina Williams, and said she had no identification with her, police said.

The ensuing investigation determined that the woman was actually Dorene Thomas, 36, of Newark, and a check of her credentials showed two active warrants for her arrest; the first for $1,500 out of Union Twp. and the second for $750 out of Bridgewater.

Carlson was able to verify that the prescription in Thomas’ possession was indeed fraudulent, police said.

Thomas was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where she was charged with obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, criminal attempt, fraud, and hindering apprehension.

Thomas was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court hearing.
