Prosecutors have reduced a charge filed against a former Massachusetts pharmacy technician accused of stealing nearly 18,000 pills.
The Salem News reports the Essex District Attorney’s office said Wednesday they were changing the charge filed against 50-year-old L. Tillman from larceny of drugs to obtaining drugs by fraud.
A prosecutor says they wanted to reduce the charge from a felony to keep the case in district court.
Authorities say Tillman improperly marked the pills, which were mostly opiates, as expired and removed them from an automated medication dispensing system at Beverly Hospital.
Tillman told state troopers she took the narcotics for herself and flushed any unused medications.
Tillman’s attorney has declined to comment on the case. She faces up to 2 { years in jail, if convicted.
