NORTH BEND, Ore – A Coos Bay man was arrested following a theft investigation at two Coos County schools.

On October 25, North Bend Police officials say they were contacted by the North Bend School District to report thefts of medication from Hillcrest Elementary School and North Bend High School.

Officials say School Resource Officer Jason Griggs investigated and ultimately arrested 24-year-old Sean Patrick Gerald Maloney of Coos Bay.

School Superintendent Bill Yester says a nurse noticed some Ritalin pills were missing while checking medications.

Yester confirmed that Maloney, a custodian with the district, was terminated from his job.

“We’re glad it’s over; we’re glad we figured it out,” Yester said. “We believe in safe and secure schools and we’re doing everything we can so that our students feel safe and parents feel good about their students being here.”

He was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree theft, third-degree criminal mischief, and reckless endangering. Also included were three charges of possession of a controlled substance with a thousand feet of a school.

Maloney was taken into custody and booked into the Coos County Jail.
