A pharmacy employee was arrested Friday on accusations that she stole 71 oxycodone pills over a period of several months from the East Street store where she worked, police said.

Kristen Freethy, 34, of Tolland was charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of a controlled substance near a school.

Freethy was working as a pharmacy technician at The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy at 79 East St., several hundred feet from Northeast School, when the pharmacy manager did a routine audit of their drug stock, Lt. William Meier said.

The manager filed a larceny complaint with police after finding that the oxycodone pills were missing, Meier said, The following investigation led to Freethy’s arrest on Feb. 8.

Freethy was released on $2,500 bond and is to appear in Vernon Superior Court on Feb. 19.
