A Mile Zero drugstore owner and pharmacist has been sanctioned by the College of Pharmacists of BC for taking thousands of tablets of narcotics over four years.
In its ruling, the College noted the manager was involved engaged in “serious misconduct” and placed his patients at a significant risk of harm. More than 26,000 narcotic tablets taken An agreed statement of facts notes that between 2014 and 2018, K. Henry Christensen agreed that more than 16,000 tablets were taken for his own personal use, without a prescription.
More than 16,000 tablets of a narcotic drug and and additional 10,000 tablets of a controlled substance were noted to be missing.
“Between September 2014 and June 2018, the Registrant took unauthorized medications for his own personal use, from the pharmacy for which he was the pharmacy manager. The medications taken included, but were not limited to, 16,000 tablets of a narcotic drug substance and 10,000 tablets of a controlled drug substance, both of which require an authorized prescription,” reads the decision at www.bcpharmacists.org
Christensen has agreed to pay a $1,500 fine and take an ethics course and is also banned from working as a pharmacist for three months. For the next three years he can’t run a pharmacy or handle narcotics.
