An Evansville nursing aide has been sentenced for her role in administering her own personal medications to three residents at a nursing facility.
A judge sentenced Gloria Welborn to 820 days after she pleaded guilty to three counts of neglect of a dependent following an investigation by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU).
Westborn was terminated from Golden LivingCenter – Woodbridge, after allegations about her administering her own personal medications to three residents at the facility.
The residents had behavioral issues resulting from their medical conditions.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Welborn gave the residents Clonazepam, which is used to treat anxiety, panic disorder and seizures.
Welborn eventually confessed to the allegations when she was interviewed by MFCU investigators, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Welborn’s sentencing has been suspended, and she will be on probation for the rest of her sentence.
Her convictions could be reduced to misdemeanors if she successfully completes the terms of her probation.
Charges are also pending against a nurse on duty, who became aware of Welborn’s actions, but delayed reporting them.
