A former healthcare worker has been charged with stealing narcotics from a Sebring nursing home.
J. Hull, 37, of Washington Township, turned herself in July 18 to Mahoning County Court No. 3 on a charge of theft of a dangerous drug, a fourth-degree felony. Hull later was released after posting a $2,000 bond.
Sebring Police began an investigation into the missing drugs on June 24, when they were called to the facility. The facility’s director of nursing told police they began an internal investigation when prescription narcotics went missing. The issue was discovered when nursing staff attempted to reorder a prescription but was told it was too early.
Police reports say the facility discovered a staff member had documented working with medication on days when she was not working. The report said the employee’s timecard corroborated the issue.
According to state rules regarding medication abuse, police must be notified when drugs are reported as missing.
On June 27, police were notified Hull’s employment had been terminated. After unsuccessful attempts to contact Hull via phone, an officer police went to Hull’s home on June 28 and asked her to appear at the Sebring Police Department for questioning.
When she arrived, she was advised of her rights and declined to answer any questions without a lawyer present.
The case was forwarded to the village prosecutor, who approved the charges, and a warrant was issued.
Hull is to appear Thursday for a preliminary hearing in Mahoning County Court No. 3.
