An ex-Lee Memorial Hospital nurse arrested for allegedly stealing medication from the hospital has had his license restricted.

Alex Rodriguez, 28, was arrested in September after an investigation revealed he had stolen painkillers Dilaudid, oxycodone and morphine from a locked medication container.

Rodriguez, of Fort Myers, stole medicine about 15 times each month from April to August before he was discovered, according to authorities.

State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. Celeste Philip signed an emergency order Thursday prohibiting Rodriguez, who was a nurse in the emergency room, from practicing nursing in any setting involving access to controlled substances, said Brad Dalton, deputy press secretary for the Florida Department of Health.
