Charges were filed on Wednesday against a Payson man who reportedly stole pain medications from an Orem senior living center and left residents there alone overnight.
D. Maloy, 42, worked as a medical technician and caretaker at Beehive Homes in Orem. He was reportedly the only employee on the night shift a couple of days before Christmas in 2017.
According to court documents, he stole oxycodone and tramadol for himself instead of administering the pain medication to three patients at the care center.
He then reportedly walked away from the facility and left nine residents without care or supervision.
When another employee arrived the next morning, she found “an elderly female resident walking around naked, two additional residents who had soiled themselves because they could not get out of bed without assistance, and three residents who had gone hours without receiving needed pain medications,” charges state.
Maloy was charged in 4th District Court with using a controlled substance, a third-degree felony, and intentional abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult, a class A misdemeanor.
He is not currently in custody and an initial court appearance is not yet scheduled.
