A Philadelphia woman who had previously been a medical assistant at a Wilmington doctor’s office was charged by Delaware State Police with distributing falsified prescriptions on a stolen pad.

According to authorities, troopers were dispatched to the Walgreens at 38 Fox Hunt Drive in Bear in May 2017, where an individual they identified as 25-year-old Devon Hawkes, of Bear, was trying to fill a prescription for narcotic drugs signed by a Wilmington doctor. Employees had been able to determine the prescription was fake.

Following an investigation into Hawkes, police said they determined Annette Scott, 49, had stolen prescription pads from her former employer and was distributing prescriptions onto which she’d forged a doctor’s signature. In total, police said she distribute 23 prescriptions for controlled substances, which individuals like Hawkes would fill, using Medicaid to pay for the drugs.

Scott was arrested by Delaware State Police Drug Diversion Unit officers on Monday, July 31, 2017. She was charged with 23 felonies, including theft of a blank prescription pad, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, second-degree forgery, insurance fraud, identity theft, and second-degree conspiracy. She was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution in lieu of $43,000 secured bond.

Hawkes was charged on June 30, 2017, with 19 felonies and two misdemeanors, including attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud, second-degree conspiracy, forgery, and receiving stolen property. He was released on $10,500 unsecured bond.

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
