A former Owl pharmacy technician in Lewiston was sentenced to 4½ years in federal prison Tuesday for stealing almost 60,000 prescription pills.
Idaho Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye sentenced Marcella Moore, 44, to the prison term followed by three years of supervised release and ordered her to pay Owl Pharmacies $30,000 in restitution.
Moore began stealing opioid pain medications in August 2017 while employed as a pharmacy technician. Over a period of about 11 months, she stole more than 45,000 pills of hydrocodone, 1,880 pills of oxycodone and 1,600 pills of lorazepam (an anti-anxiety medication), according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release.
Moore would distribute the pills to other people, who would then illegally sell them in the area.
Multiple agencies investigated the incident, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Lewiston Police Department.
