The former nurse convicted of stealing fentanyl from her workplace at a Lincoln hospital has been sentenced.

A Lancaster County Judge sentenced 36-year-old Krista Lierz to three years probation for one count of acquiring a controlled substance by fraud. Lierz pled guilty to the class IV felony on Jan. 29.

Prosecutors alleged that Lierz used her position at CHI Health St. Elizabeth to steal fentanyl between May and June of 2022. During those months, over 2,500 micrograms of fentanyl was mishandled on Lierz’s watch.

Hospital officials launched an investigation into Lierz in June 2022. She resigned from her position on July 6, 2022, after one of her urine samples tested positive for fentanyl.

Investigators said Lierz has prior convictions involving fentanyl and other drugs going back to 2017 and 2018.
