A former worker at a long-term care facility for the elderly in Salem, N.H., was given a three-year suspended prison sentence and two years of probation for stealing prescription fentanyl from a resident, the New Hampshire attorney general’s office announced Friday.

Stephanie McMahon of Derry, N.H., pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a prescription drug, the state attorney general’s office said in a press release.

She was charged in September with stealing three fentanyl patches on two separate occasions last March from a resident’s medication storage box, prosecutors said last fall.

McMahon was not authorized to handle or administer medication.

As part of her sentence, McMahon will be prohibited from caring for sick, elderly, or vulnerable adults, and will not be allowed to hold any position where she is responsible for handling or administering controlled medication, prosecutors said.
