A licensed nurse, who was formerly employed at Athens Rehabilitation Center and Senior Care, was arrested last week for allegedly stealing pain medication, according to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

A Limestone County grand jury on July 24 indicted Britney Lauren Forsyth, 29, of 25593 Caldera Drive, Athens, on the charge of second-degree theft of property.

Forsyth is accused of having several prescriptions for hydrocodone filled before they were needed and picking up the medication, according to a statement from Attorney General Luther Strange.

Other staff members at the center tried to call in the correct refill prescriptions and discovered Forsyth already had taken them without recording and storing them for distribution to the patients, officials said.

Forsyth also attempted to conceal the theft by manipulating the required narcotic documentation log, according to Strange’s statement.

Forsyth was released from Limestone County Jail on $2,500 bail.

If convicted, Forsyth could face up to 10 years in prison for the Class C felony. Because hydrocodone is a controlled substance, the theft is automatically classified as in the second degree.
