A nurse working at a Milford nursing home will serve four years of probation and six months of home confinement for stealing prescription painkillers.

Charlotte Demers, 37, of Providence, was sentenced in federal court Tuesday after pleading guilty more than a year ago to four counts of tampering with a consumer product.

According to federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Massachusetts Office, Demers, working as a licensed practical nurse at Countryside Health Care in Milford, tampered with four blisterpacks of oxycodone prescribed for residents of the nursing home.

Demers removed the pills from the blisterpacks and replaced them with other medications not used to treat pain. She then resealed the packs and put them back on medication carts.

She has successfully completed a court-run program designed for individuals under pretrial supervision before sentencing, prosecutors said.
