A former Nebraska City nurse was fined $5,000 and ordered to three years probation after entering a plea to acquiring controlled substances by fraud.

Skye Parde, 38, was arrested after Ambassador Health Assisted Living in Nebraska City reported the theft of narcotic pain medication that had been repeatedly filled from a pharmacy, but not logged as given to patients.

The federal court provided a recording of the plea hearing with US Attorney Kelli Ceraolo giving a factual basis.

Ceraolo: “The defendant acquired the pills through various means including stealing pills from the patients’ prescription stores and removing narcotic log sheets from the facility to conceal the thefts and contacting the pharmacy to refill patient prescriptions before refills were actually needed by the patient and then taking the extra pills when they were delivered without logging them in as received by the facility.

Ceraolo: “An audit by the facility after the thefts were discovered showed 6,051 missing tablets of Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and  Tramadol that had been ordered for 22 different facility residents between April 2018 and November 2018.

Ceraolo: “The defendant acknowledges removing pills from the facility, but she disputes that she is responsible for all 6,051 pills.”

Parde had been employed as a registered nurse on the night shift at the facility.
