A nurse is accused of stealing fentanyl, a powerful and potentially deadly painkiller, from the Fayetteville Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Kari Chappell Barnette, 33, who lives in Downsville, Louisiana, was charged today with embezzlement, according to arrest warrants in the Cumberland County Magistrate’s Office.
The theft occurred Wednesday, warrants said. Fayetteville police filed the charges.
Barnett travels to work in Fayetteville one week of each month, arrest documents said.
She “willfully misapplied or diverted to her own use a controlled substance,” the warrant said.
Bail was set at $15,000.
