A nurse contracted by the Iredell County Detention Center is charged with stealing pills and other medications from the jail, officials say.
A. Pait Robinson, 30, is accused of taking the pills while working at the jail on March 18. Robinson is employed by Southern Health Partners, which is contracted by the county to provide healthcare to inmates.
Southern Health noticed the pills were missing and reported the theft, according to a press release. Sheriff Darren Campbell said a series of safeguards and audits quickly alerted employees to the missing pills.
The missing drugs included prescription medications for inmates as well as “to-be-destroyed” medications seized from inmates upon arrival.
Detectives investigating the theft learned Robinson was the last person with access to the medications, the release said. Robinson lives in Bladenboro and usually works at the Bladen County jail, but was filling in that day in Iredell.
Deputies located Robinson later that day at a hotel in Iredell County. Investigators searched the hotel room and found some of the stolen medications, the release said.
Other medications found are believed to have been stolen from the Bladen County Detention Center.
Her boyfriend, J. Allen, 27, also of Bladenboro, was in the room and found with marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the release said. He was charged with possession of both and given a $3,500 secured bond.
