WORCESTER – A nurse pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to stealing medication from a nursing home and replacing the pills, specifically oxycodone, with other medications.

Charlotte Demers, 36, a licensed practical nurse from Providence, pleaded guilty to four counts of tampering with medicine during proceedings in U.S. District Court. According to the U.S. attorney’s office, from Sept. 12, 2016, to Oct. 8, 2016, while working at Countryside Health Care in Milford, Ms. Demers removed pills from the packaging and replaced them with other medications before resealing and returning them to medication carts.

Sentencing will follow participation by Ms. Demers in a court-run rehabilitation program. The RISE program (Repair, Invest, Succeed, Emerge) is offered to applicable defendants who have pleaded guilty and who are under pretrial supervision.
