TEXARKANA, Texas – A nurse practitioner was sentenced to one year of probation for stealing prescription drugs from the pharmacy of the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana.

During a hearing on Wednesday at Texarkana’s downtown federal building, Jeremy Dougan pleaded guilty to theft of government property.

According to court records, from July 2023 to Jan. 2024, Dougan said he stole no less than 700 Gabapentin pills, which is a medication prescribed for nerve pain and seizures.

Dougan has been licensed as a nurse practitioner since 2013 and currently is still active, according to the Texas Board of Nursing website.

In addition to his one-year term of federal probation, Dougan is ordered to pay $181.83, the value of the medication, and must pay a $100 assessment to the government as part of his plea agreement.
