A Walmart pharmacy technician from Cumming has been arrested after store video footage showed her allegedly stealing pills from the store’s supply area.
According to an incident report from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Karen Jane Reynolds, a 39-year-old resident of Cumming, was arrested Friday for theft by taking when a pharmacist at the Walmart at 3655 Browns Bridge Road noticed a shortage in the store’s supply of phentermine, alprazolam and Fioricet.
In the report, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy Clark stated that it is not known how many pills Reynolds allegedly took, but that the pharmacy reported that the supply shortage included: “27
Clark stated in the report that “A review of security video from the pharmacy showed that between Feb. 1, 2018 and Feb. 9, 2018 pharmacy technician Karen Reynolds was going to the area where the drugs in question were stored, opening bottles and shaking an unknown quantity of pills into her hand and then placing the items in her pocket.”
The report stated Reynolds was interviewed by sheriff’s office investigators, and during that interview she admitted to taking an “unknown quantity of phentermine and alprazolam.”
The medication identification website, Drugs.com states that phentermine is, “a stimulant similar to an amphetamine.” It also states that alprazolam is “used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders and anxiety caused by depression,” and Fioricet is a migraine medicine containing, “a combination of acetaminophen, butalbital and caffeine.”
None of the stolen medications were found on Reynolds person or in her vehicle.
Cpl. Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said that because Reynolds was not found in possession of the stolen medication, she was charged only for misdemeanor theft by taking.
Reynolds was arrested and taken to the Forsyth County Jail, and has since made bond and been released.
Reynolds did not comment as of press time.
