WASHINGTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) –

A Washington, Mo. nurse is charged with involuntary manslaughter after the overdose death of her husband Marion Bacon.

Amy Bacon worked as a licensed practical nurse at Grandview Healthcare Center, a nursing home in Washington, Missouri.

Detective Sergeant Steve Sitze told News 4, “She was bringing medication that she stole from the nursing home, home to self-medicate him.”

Court records say an autopsy determined Ricky Bacon died of “sertraline intoxication.” Sertraline is an antidepressant that goes by the brand name of Zoloft. Sitze said the medications for four residents of the nursing home were found in the Bacon’s apartment.

News 4 asked the administrator at Grandview Healthcare Center how no one noticed the theft of patient medication, which police said went on for several months, but were told there’d be no comment and that our presence on the nursing home’s property violated medical privacy laws.

Sitze said the investigation determined Bacon stole from the facility’s ample supply of medication and patients weren’t deprived of prescription medicines.

“We found nothing at the nursing home that would indicate that patients suffered or died or had missed their medication,” said Sitze.

Bacon’s bond is set at $30,000 cash-only.
