A judge at Londonderry Magistrate’s Court has called on the Western Health And Social Care Trust to immediately reinstate a ward nurse who had been suspended from her post after she was arrested and charged with stealing drugs from Altnagelvin Hospital.

The charges against Julie Miller (46) from Gorse Road in Claudy have been withdrawn, a solicitor for the Public Prosecution Service told the court yesterday.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said Mrs Miller had always denied the charge and has been working in the health service for the last 30 years with a completely unblemished record and is looking forward to being able to return to do the work she loves.

District Judge Peter King said: “If your client is able to return to her place of work doing an extremely important job in the health service, I believe that is something that should be pursued forthwith.”
