A nurse is out on bond after being charged with multiple drug felonies.
L. Burke was working at Memorial Health when investigators say she was caught stealing medical supplies.
Officials say it was only a matter of hours before they tracked down the missing drugs and medical equipment to Burke — who was still inside of the hospital.
“This is not some type of elaborate investigation,” said Gene Harley, assistant deputy director for the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team. “This was a very easy case to put together because everything was right there.”
The 33-year-old was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing drugs from her job.
It started when Memorial Medical Center security reached out to the CNT about a drug shortage.
The center alerted the agency after they received multiple discrepancies within their security notification system.
Burke is accused of taking drugs and a wide range of other items including syringes and IVs.
She also allegedly grabbed medicines that require prescriptions.
“Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Ms. Burke opted to go against her medical oath,” said Harley.
The investigation is still ongoing as officials work to understand the motives behind the thefts Burke is accused of.
